Bridges I Can't Burn

Bridges I Can’t Burn

He was playin’ for beer in a West Texas bar
John Lennon glasses and a beat up guitar
Through dust and oil fields he took us along
But there were pictures of me in the words of his songs
Yeah, there were dreams I hope to find
And a past I can’t leave behind
In his songs

Lately I see myself everywhere I turn
The faces and the places of the lessons I have learned
Wondering what lies beneath the stones I’ve left unturned
And looking back on bridges that I just can’t seem to burn

She was holdin’ her breath for that plastic guitar
Glitter and rhinestones, covered with stars
She cried when she saw it under the tree
And I thought, “Lord help her, she’s just like me”
With a heart that loves so strong
She’ll never know when to move on
Just like me

Lately I see myself everywhere I turn
The faces and the places of the lessons I have learned
Wondering what lies beneath the stones I’ve left unturned
And looking back on bridges that I just can’t seem to burn

I could take a brand new road today
If I could get my past out of my way

Lately I see myself everywhere I turn
The faces and the places of the lessons I have learned
Wondering what lies beneath the stones I’ve left unturned
And looking back on bridges that I just can’t seem to burn
